Other than for one other surgery, where they gave me something IV while I was in the hospital, I typically try to avoid pain meds. I tend to have unfortunate side effects with most, and adult doses are usually too much for me.

Aspirin is a pretty ancient remedy, but it works fairly well for me and, taken with food and fluids, doesn’t tear up my stomach.

I guess I just wasn’t meant for psychoactive drugs. 🤷‍♀️

I react badly to codeine - as in out of body and floating hallucinations. 😱

I discovered this post-surgery in college, when given some to take for pain. I took one and went to calculus class. OMG. I was floating above the class! There was a small part of my brain, still sane, that said SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT HERE. I CANNOT FLY. I AM NOT FLYING! Walking back from class, I was 10 to 12 feet tall and my feet were waaaay down there.

I told my doctor to put NO CODEINE on my chart.

Yes, indeed.

For a time, back when the Chinese imported ingredients were killing pets, I turned to making all my pet food. I got books and read extensively.

That was hideously expensive, but I didn’t want to add my pets to the death statistics as my go-to feeds were being recalled.

When I read ingredients labels now, I am sometimes tempted to do it again, but the cost to make high quality food is significant.

I take a pragmatic approach to change, as I prefer success to failure. If I can get one step forward, I will take that over demanding only perfect unicorns which I can never attain, as @Stonekettle has so well described.

In theory, grain free makes sense. Carnivores did not evolve to eat grains, after all.

But as I read labels on “grain free” options at the feed store, I was perplexed. PEAS were not on the evolutionary diet menu either! Neither were the myriad of other non-animal ingredients.

Commercial feeds are never going to re-create an animal’s natural diet, because people couldn’t afford to feed that.

So they swap corn for peas and call it “grain free.”

That is always the difficult time, when they start refusing to eat. Let him eat meatballs as long as he’ll eat those.

Really soft is usually more palatable to really old dogs, so also try scrambled eggs (softer than fried). Mashed potatoes with a bit of butter.

I have been watching Kamala Harris for awhile, and I have been researching her. Very much like what I see. I could definitely get behind any ticket she leads for 2020.

I would like Tammy Duckworth even more. I would really like to see a CIC who is a combat veteran. It’s been too long since we had a CIC who understood what it really means to send in troops. But I don’t think Tammy is running.
