Why? Is there an outbreak?
I read something on my friend’s timeline yesterday again. She posted a link about the number of vax deaths vs the number of measle deaths from the cdc
I don’t want to alienate her but i have to think that the number of vax deaths is obviously higher because vaccinations have been working during the years queried. Her opinion is that vaccinations are intentional and part of a scheme to reduce population.
*sighs not even sure i want to go there.
@Museek and yes Oregon is having an outbreak.
and for the first time, a 30+ yr old contracted it..
@Bemet_Or woah...
We really don’t want this happening again. People need to consider public health... seriously.... i GET that no one wants their kids to be injured or gave an allergic reaction but they’ll regret an outbreak much worse. Either way, there is risk and much more so with an outbreak.
yep. Oregon here. outbreak has everyone worried. i'm vaccinated, went to the pharmacy prepared to pay $87 to get another shot just in case, but they said as long as you've had two MMR shots you're good.
been checking in with my friends as able to encourage they get their kiddos vaccinated if they aren't already.
worried about babies & those who *can't* get vaccinated.
If you don’t know your vaccination status, remembering only one shot, then you probably ought to get vaccinated, particularly if you live in an outbreak area.
you have your own immunity now.. if you had it...
just like chicken pox...
I wonder when that's going to start coming back with a vengeance...
@Bemet_Or I never had cpox.. I got one dose of the vax before I went to china but not the second.. @Myrth @evistre @Museek @Kitty62862
I still have the scars to prove I had it...
I'm looking forward to shingles.. suhweeeeeeeeeeeeeet!
@Bemet_Or i just found out I can get cpox (assuming my 1 vax wasn't enough) i can get cpox if exposed to shingle ffs
And adult cpox is dangerous.. and has a death rate associated with it.
@ucantstop_me @Bemet_Or @Myrth @evistre @Kitty62862
wait... you can get it if you are exposed to shingles and you’ve had one vaccine?
I worked with a guy who had shingles so I guess i am immune from having had cpox as a kid.
No, I don’t think it works like that. Shingles is not contagious as shingles. But if you never had chickenpox, apparently you can contract CP from S patient.
Having had chickenpox means you may get shingles eventually. The virus lies dormant in your body for years, then attacks with shingles.
@Myrth @ucantstop_me @Bemet_Or @evistre @Museek I had chicken pox as a child. I should get shingles shot?
@Kitty62862
If you're 50 or older it's generally recommended. Ask your doctor/NP, 'cause I'm not either of those things. 😜
Also, good luck finding someone who actually has the vaccine in stock. 😮
@Kitty62862 @ucantstop_me @Bemet_Or @evistre @Museek @Dobo
In addition to finding it in stock, check on cost for your shingles vaccination. Most employer plans will cover it for age 60 and over. But if you’re on Medicare, you may have to pay $200+ for it, depending on your plan coverage.
https://www.consumerreports.org/health/why-the-shingles-vaccine-cost-so-much/
@Myrth i believe it. MMR itself is $87-107 depending on where you go uninsured.
I just want all the vaccines for cheap, please. Load me up.
A couple years ago I stopped by our county health department for my flu shot. I asked about a shingles shot. I was told that although I could get shingles at my age, it isn’t recommended until you are 60. If I got the vaccine before age 60 I would pay full price, but if I waited until 60 it would be covered by my insurance. So I decided to wait until after my 60th birthday.
@Kitty62862 @ucantstop_me @Myrth @evistre @Bemet_Or @Museek
Yeah, I have a prescription that reads "take one daily," but the insurance company says a 90 day supply is 18 tablets. So that's what my pharmacy gives me.
Because, of course, the insurance company knows better than my doctor what I need for my health. 😠
@Dobo @Museek @Bemet_Or @evistre @ucantstop_me @Kitty62862
It is often helpful to challenge your insurance company’s arbitrary decisions.
It angers me that they do This routinely to patients. I have an advantage that most don’t: I am an attorney and I can threaten to make them my new hobby. They know most patients won’t go on the attack, so they get away with evil behavior. 🤬
