That is something we need to closely monitor:

Possible Caribbean or Gulf system

A broad region of spin over Central America, known as the Central American Gyre, may help generate a named storm next week. It’s too early to ascertain any specific details, but tropical development is possible. MyRadar meteorologist Matthew Cappucci has an early preview.

The full moon will look a little darker than normal tonight.

Why?

A very, very minor lunar eclipse. The moon will be darkened by the broadest, most diffuse part of the Earth's shadow called the "penumbra."

It's not worth staying up for, but the moon will be a bit darker.

There are increasing signs that a tropical storm or hurricane will develop in the northwest Caribbean in about 7 to 10 days' time.

Thereafter, it may meander into the Gulf of Mexico.

A broad gyre of spin over the region will probably pinch off a more concentrated lobe of spin.

Wow! Carolina Beach, North Carolina picked up 20.81 inches of rain, close to 18 inches of which came down in just 12 hours' time.

17.7 inches in 12 hours would be a thousand-year event.

September is on average the wettest month, with a mean monthly rainfall of 8.69 inches.

⛈️Scattered severe thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and evening from New Mexico and the Texas Panhandle all the way to the Canadian border as a disturbance ejects out of the Rockies.

We have a low pressure system forming on a front off the coast of the Carolinas. It will probably become Helene as it derives energy from the warm waters of the Gulf Stream.

It will move inland as a tropical rainstorm with gusty winds at the coast.

Localized Flooding in the Mid-South

The remnants of Francine will continue to pump moisture north into Alabama, western Georgia and western Tennessee, causing pockets of flooding. Another 2 to 3 inches of rain are expected by Saturday evening. MyRadar meteorologist Matthew Cappucci has an update.

This blob of convection (thunderstorm activity) over the open Atlantic is now Tropical Storm Gordon.

It's midway between the Leeward Islands and coastal Africa.

Sea surface temperatures and environmental conditions are marginal, so it won't do much as it meanders WNW at sea.
