CoSo.. imagine calling a sibling to wish them happy birthday. They live clear across the USA...only to find that sibling passed away two weeks earlier.
Everyone knew there was a rift in the family. Some were hopeful of a reunion. Now it's too late.
I have siblings that have cut me off, refuse to speak to me.. I have attempted to reach out numerous times only to be met with a brick wall.
Guess I'm getting a glimpse of what might be my future.
@MrsE0113 Oh, that's rough! My condolences, although there was as you say a rift, so much is shared as siblings. Maybe after you get past this first crash of grief you can decide what path to take towards reapproachment or not
Doesn't have to be your future... friends often become family.

@MrsE0113 not to diminish your thoughts here, I have had to apply a sort of ethic to remove myself from toxic family, the point of what I'm saying is, is that if it's meant for you, then it is, if it isn't, then it's not. Your future is not predetermined, and shame on them for not accepting your overtones of family and spirit.

@MrsE0113 Sorry to hear that. I only had one sib and had issues with him but a few years before he passed we managed to put that all behind us. Keep trying it makes a difference.
MrsE, I am so deeply sorry. That lands as particularly cruel, to preserve silence in the context of loss and to deny you knowledge. Particularly when you have tried to cross the divide 😔🫂💜

The behaviors that caused the rift can fester in some people and grow into something tangible with greater impact than the initial perceived slight. Sorry for your loss and your siblings loss of time.
