As devastating as the water will be on the Florida Panhandle, keep an eye on TN between Chattanooga and Knoxvile. You have no idea what a foot of rain can do in the mountains.
Camille's death toll in 1969 was highest in Harrison County, MS, but second highest was in Rockbridge/Nelson/Amherst counties in the Blue Ridge of Virginia. The storms get stuck on the mountains and rain themselves out.
@MelissaHDavis Much higher expected rainfall in the area you mentioned, east of Chattanooga & Knoxville, where it's even higher than in areas further south.

Exactly. The steep terrain causes massive flash flooding that can devastate entire communities.
@MelissaHDavis I'm watching the radar and warnings. This is the most activity I've seen this much in advance of hurricane remnants since I moved here (3 yrs.). Usually there's rain a day or two early, not most of a week before.
