Most social media platforms goad you into some version of piousness, whether you're on the right side of things or not. It's always about trying to prove someone else wrong.
Counter Social is the only SM site i can think of that just makes me want to be a better person, to do good things, and to be a part of a community.
That's the difference. This place doesn't make me want to REACT, it makes me want to ACT.
🎧 The Mysterines, "Afraid of Tomorrows". One of my most anticipated 2024 releases. Lia Metcalfe is a tough chick with "don't fuck with me" vibes to spare. But on the band's second full length she's showing some cracks in the armor, and the music reflects that - there's a wider spectrum of moods here. The brashness of their early singles is still in there, but this is a more experienced Mysterines, painting with a bigger brush and more colors.
Continuing my journey through Doctor Who. I watched the double whammy "Silence in the Library"/"Forest of the Dead" and damn what a mind-f**k. I have to assume that at some point the show's quality starts to degrade but right now this may be my favorite TV show ever. #cosotv
Got asked today "you're still on Counter Social huh"?
"Yes - aside from the obvious stuff, there are people on there whose intelligence humbles me to the point where I feel like a dummy, and I want to not be a dummy...why would I be on a SM platform where I think I am as smart or smarter than almost everybody else?"
Thanks COSO - for making me feel like a dummy!
Quick note - the recording is from a reference mix as the master tape was lost. So this is far from an audiophile recording. Some of the instruments are buried to the point of non-existence (Sanders fife in "Africa"), and there is an anomaly in the tape reel that causes regular dropouts for the first half of "Shika-Lova". But you get past that stuff, it's an awesome experience.
🎧 Alice Coltrane, "The Carnegie Hall Concert". Recorded in 1971 fresh off the release of her landmark "Journey...." LP, Coltrane brought a double trio including Archie Shepp and Pharoah Sanders for a free jazz/skronk master class. Four extended workouts, two of them written by her late husband, ebb and flow and explode. Sanders might have invented some new notes at this show. Just released on Impulse after 50 years on the shelf. A must.

Whoa. The “Blink” episode of #DoctorWho has certainly earned its reputation. A great hour of television, even if the doctor only gets a few minutes of screen time. #cosotv
