I love conventions as much as the next person, but goddamn, am I ever getting sick and tired of the fact that a lot of these conventions are in red states.

And they have some pull as well. When Mike Pence was governor of Indiana, he passed the RFRA law which among other things banned gay marriage. Indy Comic Con (and other conventions) threatened to pull out of the city. RFRA was withdrawn.
