They REALLY lost me with The Astonishing. I loved Mangini's playing too but that album was not....good. I was apprehensive about Portnoy's return, but this new track checks all the boxes. And Labrie sounds fantastic.

His vocals were always a point of contention for me. Even when he first joined the band - his live performances, I thought, were crap. It all sounded like one big loud high pitched vowel movement. I last saw them live on Mangini's first tour and I loved it. I have a funny story about Charlie Dominici i have to tell you sometime - I'll DM you.

I'll be honest, he's never been my favorite as a front man, but it's gotta be hard fronting a band that is so musically on top of it.
I'm definitely excited about the new record and I might even make a plan to see them on this tour, circumstances permitting.

I've been listening to them since the Majesty days and even I will get tired-head with some of their songs, but man, even at 10min, this one rocked the whole time.
And yeah, JLB sounds amazing. I'm glad for that, too.
