We watched the live stream of the “Outside Lands” music festival last night. I always thought Janelle Monae was a garden variety r&b artist. Now kicking myself for not checking her out all these years. Her set was fire. Her songs are immediate and urgent and personal. Her live band is monster. She performs the shit out of her songs.
