Many thanks - a lot of the credit goes to an app called, appropriately, "ALBUMS THE APP". I have a big library and I am an album oriented listener. So a good amount of my choices come from however my library gets shuffled that day.
I use a media server and often just hit shuffle and whatever pops up... I have a big library too. 😇

That was exactly why I started looking for an album-centric app. The guy that developed it is a real music-head and a smart dude. He put a lot of thought into what features "music people" would want at the album level, and made a very feature rich, user-friendly, fully configurable UI. I LOVE it. There's no desktop version yet, but my ipad and phone are with me all the time.
I'm not a Apple user... and can't find anything similar to what you describe so far.
