Official trailer for #TheRoomNextDoor, the first English language feature by beloved Spanish filmmaker #PedroAlmodóvar.
Ingrid and Martha were close friends in their youth, when they worked together at the same magazine. Ingrid went on to become an autofiction novelist while Martha became a war reporter, and they were separated by the circumstances of life. After years of being out of touch, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.
SO THERE with you. ❤️ Any new Almodóvar is an excuse to drop and run for it, but this cast is going to be exceptional. I can't wait to see how his cadence of storytelling plays out in an English-lang context.
What I'm keen to see is how that deft touch he has with the stories that don't end so much as divert, wander, and flow, in keeping with the natural strangeness of existence, will translate into a language context far more used to purpose-driven storylines.
I *know* he'll capture the weave of the source text well. It's just going to be interesting to see how it "hits" in a language context so used to tidier lives and "tighter" plots. :) #Soon!
@MLClark Sigrid Nunez seems like quite an amazing voice all on her own.
😂 I was just going through her catalogue myself! Definitely going to pick up one of these books for the general mood of her worlds before watching this film - but not the source text itself. I don't want to get distracted from whatever Almodóvar decides to do with it!
@MLClark Same!
@MLClark based on the description of the book and the reviews I've read of it's content ... it seems to match very well with his flow and narrative style.
