Shout-out today to everyone trying to get by without completely giving up.

Lots still to do today re: teaching, editing, writing.

Then tomorrow I'm going on "walkabout" - taking the bus to the far side of the city, & walking back. Around 6 hours.

The fire in my heart is low.

I haven't been firing on all cylinders all summer (save for three weeks when I didn't eat, but that's... not something I can replicate long term!).

But where there's life, there's hope. Time to touch grass again. 👌

(I will just add that, as a teen, I used to do this in Toronto. Just bus down to Union Station or Kennedy, and walk back to my west-side residence over 4-5 hours. One encounters SO many different neighbourhoods, rich with their traditions and histories, along the way. Highly recommend it, as a way of reconnecting with the world we share, and learning more about your own home.)

@MLClark

sorry to hear that your fire is low. hope a walkabout helps. equanimity is the most difficult practice for me these days.

@MLClark I do that when I'm in DC. I take the Metro to a stop, get out, and walk about town.

Last September, I walked from the Smithsonian west to Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and then to Arlingon Cemetery where I visited a recently deceased friend.

Your soul is torturing you again. Only the best writers suffer from that.

@MLClark Rest is necessary for growth, nothing can endure at speed forever.

It is my hope that a needed respite comes sooner rather than later. It can be so hard to endure when your reserves are exhausted and all you can see is more road ahead. That's been my experience at least.

I've been putting every bit of time I can get into scrubbing, cleaning and organizing for the self care as other challenges crowd in from the margins.

The dawn always comes, no matter the length of night.
