Hey CoSo friends, we need help. A tree came down on our house and cracked it and took out a couple of rooms. Fire dept just left, didn’t do anything. Insurance is dicking us around in getting safe shelter for us and six cats n an urgent basis with the storm moving in. I don’t even know where to go for help.

Taking a break from sawing and tarp wrangling and I just wanted to express my humblest thanks to everyone who has donated to our GoFundMe and shared the link; and also to everyone when has reached out with advice on our tree vs house fight.

Twin has reached out to the Red Cross who has promised her a small infusion of funds for emergency expenses. Insurance may have an adjuster assigned by the weekend (...).

Cats are super traumatized.

So is twin.

@Lilithiel have you tried your local schools if you have children. A counselor there may be able to point you in the right direction.

@Lilithiel

Do you have a local red cross? Pet shelter may also have contacts to help keep you all safe. I'm at a loss for words. 💛

@Lilithiel
Check if your policy let's you stay in a hotel temporarily and will reimburse you after. I wouldn't trust the agent to volunteer that information.

@Calliegirl @Lilithiel when I was in a similar crisis there was no way to find my ins policy. Friends advised I check into a hotel and work it out later. I did, and insurance did pay. Many of the longterm stay hotels take cats, no need to tell them how many.

Sending hugs!

@Lilithiel insurance won't find you shelter.
the costs of other shelter is covered under additional living expenses of your homeowners policy.
be prepared to obtain the services of an outside adjuster.
good luck!

@Lilithiel - not sure where you are located but some states have a telephone hotline for people who need urgent help. Maybe a quick Google of your location? Really and truly wish I could offer more.

@Lilithiel
Salvation Army, Red Cross, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Trustee for your Township & YW/MCA

@Lilithiel I hope there's someone near you that can help.

@Lilithiel

Is there a number like 211you can call for non emergency help?

@Lilithiel I feel useless on the other side of the Atlantic, but understand that there are a lot of churches in the US that do community work - are there any local to you who could help with emergency shelter etc, if other agencies fail? Sending love and concern.

@MrGoat @Lilithiel
311 is good for immediate. Long term check w local chamber of commerce? Business people help each other by offering their homes when they go for 2-6 month vacations to incoming business people or politicians. They get rent or free house sitting out of it. Just a long shot.
So sorry for your very bad event💜

@Lilithiel as a pensioner and tied to a different currency (about 25% less than USD) I gave what I could right now. I hope you get this all straightened out to your benefit ASAP

@Lilithiel You're welcome - I wish I could have done more but pensions only go so far. Take care and I hope insurance etc. comes through soon for you and your family

@Lilithiel
These people who lived in your town found shelter at
the Green Valley Church Red Cross shelter in Placerville. They have 6 kids. Here is the link to this story:

@Lilithiel Have you tried calling 2-1-1 for resources?
