And let me be clear: By "myth", I don't mean "lie". I mean a story, a way to explain one's history to oneself which isn't based on empirical evidence.

Yes. Abraham is a myth. Moses is a myth. Jesus, while a historical figure, is a myth insofar as his divinity is concerned.

But what's not a myth is that the Israelites arose out of the Canaanite hill tribes of late Bronze - early Iron Age Canaan. They ARE the indigenous people.

But a Roman emperor's renaming of Judea as "Palestine" is a vile propaganda ploy which still reaps dividends.

I'd just like to say I love you folks, even the ones I disagree with. I may not like you sometimes, but I still care. 💙

Oh my God.

You don't know what a simple thing like sitting down without pain is, until you're denied it. The relief I feel now is indescribable.

@Alfred Will all of our memories vanish, like tears in the rain?

Anyway, in other news.

I'm able to sit down with no pain or pressure.

Addendum:

I told this story to a certain person. She thanked me for stating where I came from. But then averred that "I know Jews are racists." So, yeah.

Now, I've always been a social justice warrior. And this desecrating of a religious house struck me as wrong. So wrong. My mom's boss was Jewish, and she spoke glowingly of him as "Mr. Miller". And, of course, I grew up in the Vatican II Church.

But that graffiti. Why did a synagogue deserve that? Because they were Jews? No. That was injustice. That early experience formed my view on Jews and Israel.

Block me. I won't miss you. But here I stand. I can do no other.

There are many reasons why I support Israel and am protective of Jews. But this story will suffice for now.

There is a synagogue across the street from where I grew up. Washington Heights used to be heavily Jewish before its residents climbed up the American Dream ladder and moved out.

My church was kitty corner from my block.

Church? Of course, never graffitied.

Synagogue? Tagged to high heaven.

Ah, "Occupy Wall Street". What a blast from the past.

I'll go one better. They'll slink back to class, and in 20 years they'll be voting for whatever fascist the GOP puts up.

I simply adore Carlo "The Eyebrow" Ancelotti. Hala Madrid!

None of these people will be writing "Letter From A Birmingham Jail".

I just noticed that someone with whom I've never interacted much has blocked me. I can assume why. And you know what? Thank you. Saves us both a lot of bother.

April 30, 1863 ~ SARAH J. SMITH TOMPKINS GARNET becomes the first African American female principal in the New York City public school system.
Sarah Smith led a long and distinguished career in the New York public schools. She began as a teacher’s assistant in 1845 when she was fourteen years old and retired as a principal in 1900.

Some thoughts.

1. Peaceful protests do not guarantee a lack of consequences. Ask all the Black Americans and their allies from the '60s.
2. Peaceful protests involve tearing down systems, not targeting minorities who may share a religion as the target.
3. You can't colonize your ancestral homeland, at least not in the same sense as Europeans colonized the New World.
