@sfleetucker I don't know about up in the Bay Area, but in LA it's Indigenous Peoples Day.
@LiberalLibrarian I specifically mean "Columbus Day" as it is still a national holiday. I have 0 problem with Indigenous (or First Peoples) Day.
Personally, I think we should move elections to July 4th. No ballot counting that day. Just voting followed by fireworks to celebrate our nation and its (very imperfect) democratic founding.
Agree! Once I learned the truth that Columbus didnβt even discover this country, on top of the atrocities he committed, it disgusted me.
@LiberalLibrarian True, racism knows no racial boundaries. Look at the centuries of ethnic, religious, and caste bigotry in India - even before the British arrived to teach them European concepts of racism.
There is literally a holiday to celebrate a dude not doing what he's celebrated for doing.
@Cosmichomicide @LiberalLibrarian
I mean... Presidents' day is pretty useless.
Cancel Thanksgiving. The reward native americans received for assisting European settlers was disease, expansion onto their lands and killings. Umm, ok, pass the gravy.
@LiberalLibrarian <stares in Columbus Day>. which is both close to the election date, and a a celebration of a genocidal bastard who didn't "discover" anything. #politics
