Trump has filed his notice of appeal in the NY civil fraud case. For anyone confused: That does not mean he put up the bond money. He can appeal WITHOUT putting up the bond money (does have to pay the appeal fees, etc.). But if Trump does not put up the bond money, the judgment is still in force, which means it is racking up interest every day.

And without a stay of the judgment pending appeal, the NY AG can begin collection on the money starting March 25. If Trump posts the full judgment amount + interest in cash, it will automatically stay the collection - and other parts of the judgment. Or he can try to get a bond, but that is likely to be very rough since the case is about him lying about the value of his assets (collateral)

Also notable - Trump has filed a NOTICE of appeal, not the appeal itself. The attorneys on the notice are Alina Habba and Cliff Robert's firms. So Trump (so far) has been unable to get a top shelf appellate attorney. Habba barely knows trial law.

@LauraWalkerKC I wish that BBC would have been so clear! I normally like them as a news source but too often those that speak legalese are horrendous at translating to common English.

@LauraWalkerKC
The Habba / E. J. Carroll trail was so much fun. I loved reading that the judge had to tell her what he called "Evidence 101" basics.
