Getting to the wild card game IS NOT a playoff birth. WINNING the wild card game is. Really wish baseball, the teams, and the players would come around to that.
Very sad that Wright's playing career ended tonight and injuries will likely keep him out of the hall of fame, but I am relieved at the prospect of everyone being able to (maybe begrudgingly) move forward after tonight. If we were in contention, the farewell may not have been able to happen. I hope to see him become a coach at some point so he can still have a shot at a championship (and also be a shining example for every player coming through).
I have a few friends that are Cubs fans and as a Mets fan, there is an inherent disdain for the Dodgers. If the right teams win and lose tomorrow, they play for the Wild Card.
One day you win 90+ games and are working toward a playoff birth (the wild card game IS NOT -at least it shouldn't be- considered playoffs), the next you end up in the same place as the 100 loss Orioles.
Baseball is a fickle bitch.
I'm glad that the dust in my house has finally cleared up. Just in time for the Mets/Marlins to go into extras, postponing Wright's farewell speech to the crowd. I anticipate dust to manifest at that time.
If you're a Mets fan, you need to see this timeline.
Marriage
Me: want food tonight?
Wife: Place A would be nice (15-20 minutes away), can you Google if they do take out?
M: I've checked before...their site doesn't explicitly say either way, but Yelp says they do.
W: what about Place B (5 minutes away).
M: I'm good with that
W: I still want (plate from Place A)
M: im going out there tonight, aren't I?
W: no, it's fine. We'll do Place B.
M: *reads "it's fine"* *Eye twitch*
The part of baseball I don't understand:
The presumed NL Cy Young winner brought his ERA down to 1.70 while facing only one more than the minimum and notching his 1000th career strike out is taken out to start the 9th. We're at home and the season ends Sunday. I just don't get it.
106 pitches through 7.2 and cyGrom still throwing high 90s. Dudes machine.
I saw something today that mentioned a potential run for president from Avennati in 2020. I'm sorry, but I'm leaning towards a hard eye roll. Why? These law suits against Trump and Kavanaugh are what has brought him into the public eye. He has earned the same response as Kanye, Iger, and Oprah.
That being said, our current president is a billionaire real estate mogul and reality TV star with an ego larger than his bank account so why not let Avennati try running?
We were going through Hulu docs the other day and there are a bunch of ridiculous alien theory based ones that I just love to soak up. Started today with Ancient Aliens Questions which appears to actually be the launching device for the show Ancient Aliens.
Even more remarkable is the follow up thought that someone watched that "documentary" and decided to pitch it as a TV show. But really, as the 13th seasons airs, who really has the last laugh?
Still working my way through The Goldberg's on Hulu and I am continuously floored by the lookalike casting of Adam's friends vs their real life counter parts.
Also how he peppers in his real life friends into the show.
Then you go and check the show's imdb and find out the real Barry has made 7 friggin cameos. MUST. FIND.
As I come from small school in the boonies of VT, I sometimes ask my wife for a refresher on what things like grade, grammar, and middle school are (I had elementary and then went next town over for Jr/Sr high). Blows my mind when she said some people don't meet everyone in their class (when I graduated with about 36 others).
What I don't understand is 3 grades need their own building but k-5 and 9-12 function with 4-6.
Movie fan. Mets fan. I like to travel. Once scored a goal against a Jamaican soccer team in Cuba.
