Russia's aggression in the Black Sea isn't Trump's fault.

Russia cares more about its near abroad.

Ukraine's not in NATO. US can raise cost, but it's not primarily about America.

Americans have a tendency to think everything in the world is about America. Leads to foreign policy errors. Most egregious recent example: Saddam wanted to "defy" the US (he was mostly worried about looking weak to Iran). Global power plays a role, but many crises are regional.
