@karashta Trump always let's others pay for his dirty deeds. Even 5 years at Rikers will do the elderly man in. The violence by inmates has gotten worse. A corrections officer was just recently stabbed multiple times by an inmate (he is in stable condition).
@LMMomTo2 @karashta This article really opened my eyes to the conditions at Rikers and has stuck with me. It's truly shocking.

@JillMack30 @LMMomTo2 Once it became fully clear to me that prisoners are allowed, by the US Constitution, to be worked like chattel slaves, my whole view on things changed. I'm not shocked by your article, but I am appalled that humans can treat each other this way.
@karashta @JillMack30 It's inhumane. Do you remember when the power was out for days in the dead of winter and a Brooklyn jail and inmates were freezing. Eventually they were banging on the the windows to gain attention from the outside world. Family were calling officials for help.
@karashta @JillMack30 I agree! I remember reading an article about prison in the Netherlands. They actually rehabilitate and thus there's less recidivism. Don't know if this is the same article, but I found this:
