@karashta Trump always let's others pay for his dirty deeds. Even 5 years at Rikers will do the elderly man in. The violence by inmates has gotten worse. A corrections officer was just recently stabbed multiple times by an inmate (he is in stable condition).
@LMMomTo2 @karashta This article really opened my eyes to the conditions at Rikers and has stuck with me. It's truly shocking.

@karashta @JillMack30 It's inhumane. Do you remember when the power was out for days in the dead of winter and a Brooklyn jail and inmates were freezing. Eventually they were banging on the the windows to gain attention from the outside world. Family were calling officials for help.
@karashta @JillMack30 I agree! I remember reading an article about prison in the Netherlands. They actually rehabilitate and thus there's less recidivism. Don't know if this is the same article, but I found this:

@LMMomTo2 @JillMack30 It's easy for a lot of people to treat others like this because they totally dehumanize the prisoners. They're less than people in a lot of eyes. So untrue. Most of them are people with mental health or societal and systemic issues that really need to be addressed. Prisons should be rehabilitation centers, not punishment boxes imo
