Holy Cult of Personality, y’all! I just spent an hour reading the comments under a WaPo piece re: Madonna’s upcoming world tour - what a ride! I learned a shit ton of do’s & don’ts for myself as a 61-year old woman (most of it contradictory ), stuff about Chrissy Hynde I wish I didn’t now know, & lots more! I wanted to comment but I’m signed in under my actual name and I’m convinced Madonnanites would send assassins to my house. I just wanted to say Madonna is the Kim Kardashian of Chers. 🙀
@LKNWoman I think she was very different when she first arrived on the scene and a helluva business woman, for better or worse, but she's sadly become a caricature.
@SaltyVeruca I guess Kim’s a great business woman too. I never liked Madonna. I never found her fresh or edgy or even authentic. She picked the lowest-hanging fruit to be “provocative.” This is all just my opinion, of course. It’s the difference between someone who sets out to achieve their highest best in their art and by doing so becomes a Superstar (eg. Aretha) vs. someone who really wants to be a Superstar and finds a way to do that. That’s just hollow for me. Again, just my opinion.
@LKNWoman I'm not a fan. Never have been. But I have to tip my hat to a successful woman. Be interesting to know how much initial control these women had in their careers. I'm not a musical historian.
