I visited Kenmore today. It was the home of Fielding Lewis, a major supporter of the US Revolution. Not on the battlefield, but by supplying guns and ships at his own expense. Kenmore got a lot of famous visitors, including Lafayette.
Just two blocks down the street from Kenmore is a monument to the drafting of the Virginia Statute of Religious Freedom by Jefferson and four other movers and shakers in 1783. Remember that in 1783, religious freedom was a revolutionary concept.
I visited Chatham, across the river from Fredericksburg, today. The first picture is the main house, built in 1771.
It was the Union army's headquarters during much of the Civil War, and was visited by Lincoln and Walt Whitman. Clara Barton and Dr. Mary Walker worked there.
The two trees on the left were there during the Civil War.
The second picture is the view of downtown Fredericksburg from Chatham.
#Caturday Arenita has a new condo. It was a gift from friends who are packing up and moving to Mexico, and couldn't take it with them.
#CoSoCanucks Did another walking tour of Banff today. The second picture is a couple of elk. The third one is the venerable Banff Springs Hotel, and the fourth one is the Bow Falls.
Going home to Kamloops tomorrow.
#CoSoCanucks Spent an afternoon walking around Banff, Went to the Whyte Museum and the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity.
#Caturday This is international cat Mouse Tse-Tung. She was adopted as a stray in Barra de Navidad, has been transported to and from Banff a couple of times. Her servants plan to move permantly from Banff to Barra de Navidad a month from now, and Mouse will be making the trip.
#CoSoCanucks Drove the Icefields Parkway from Jasper to Banff this afternoon. The second picture is Bow Lake.
#CoSoCanucks @_Psyber Went for a hike this morning in Maligne Canyon, north of Jasper.
Got a dose of what Edward Abbey called "industrial tourism" there, but hey, the national and provincial parks are for everybody.
#CoSoCanucks A clear day in the Canadian Rockies. Can't beat it. I hiked the Valley of the Five Lakes trail, south of Jasper.
#CoSoCanucks Drove from Kamloops to Jasper today. My first time in the Canadian Rockies in 41 years, and my first time ever in Valemount and Jasper. The first picture was taken near Tete Jaune Cache, the second in downtown Jasper.
#CoSoCanucks I'm at Joe's Cafe, which has been an institution on Commercial Drive in Vancouver just about forever. A couple doors down is the Portuguese Club, a place where I occasionally drank beer.
#CoSoCanucks Did a hike in Wells Gray Park today, this time to the summit of Pyramid Mountain, 1,094 meters (3,590 feet) above sea level. You can see that the air was smoky, but it was clearer than in Kamloops.
