"A truth-teller disturbs, alerts, wakens, and warns against indifference to injustice and complacency about the needs of human beings. To be silent about injustices in this world is to be a partner with those who carry out violence and evil and corruption."

Whenever I’m in an earthquake (which is much more common than I’d like) I pray for safety, and not just for myself—for my neighbors as well.

He claimed to be completely unafraid during earthquakes, confident that even if everyone else died, he would be fine. Given that he was once affiliated with Keith Green’s ministry, one would think that he would have a little more humility.

I had a friend who was one of those who always said the other passengers should thank God when he was flying on their airplane, because God would never allow a plane with him on it to crash.

I am not generally cool during an earthquake, by the way, even a small one. They scare the piss out of me. I’ve seen firsthand what they can do.

So despite the overall assholery of the Japanese press, this is something that needs to be watched.

To be fair, the quake that just hit Tokyo was incredibly deep and lasted a very long time. While as a rule of thumb, a strong quake is followed by only weak aftershocks, in recent history a few strong quakes have actually triggered much stronger quakes sometimes hours later.

My criticism of the Japanese news still stands, however, as a general comment.

Correction: Apparently I was just seeing news of a relatively mild aftershock. The quake was 6.1. This is just on the cusp of being dangerous, but usually the kind of quake that just causes everyone to crap their pants barring some weird accident.
