Since 2000, there have been three special counsels appointed during Democratic administrations (Smith, Hur, and Weiss) and three appointed during Republican administrations (Fitzgerald, Mueller, and Durham).
None of the six appointees were registered Democrats.
Every FBI director during this period (and indeed, in the history of the bureau) has been a Republican.
