When I moved to the South I happily adopted the local custom of wearing hats. So I say go for it!
And on the subject of hats, one of the many remarkable things about Leon Redbone was his commitment to the bit; he essentially created a stage persona and then inhabited it. Wonder if that could work in the internet age?
