Gotta admire the thought of burning someone with a hot poker was a great holiday greeting.
#Life went to a Walmart Superstore today to get a prescription (the only place I can consistently get it) and was greeted by 2 women singing holiday songs by a Salvation Army Kettle, Toys for Tots, a radio station raising money to help disadvantaged kids, and PATH (People Attempting To Help).
I picked up several things for PATH.
As I used to work for Sally Ann, I donated to them because of the huge treatment facility here. No insurance required, no questions asked.
This one has Bob Hope in it.
I'm old enough to remember when Bob Hope was huge regarding entertaining the troops.
For those interested in old holiday cards, here is a link to a site featuring images printed in Ladies Home Journal about cards sent to the military during WWI.
Some are poignant, some push patriotism - we miss you but we're happy you're there in the trenches cue in a flag.
This is a link to the University of Chicago which recently (2021) got a huge collection of vintage Jewish material including illustrations of Hanukkah celebrations.
Very interesting.
I won't post tons of them, but it's a feature of my main FB account.
Plus vintage cards for other winter celebrations.
I just find the Victorians view of the holidays intriguing.
The were obsessed by death and dying, bats, birds, and frogs. Why?
Killing a robin or a wren was considered good luck in December. Particularly on Saint Stephen's Day on Dec. 26th.
Hi! I'm delighted to hastily offer greetings as a bull chases a child up a tree.

I'm a fan of Victorian holiday cards. The Victorians had such a strange (to us) sense of humor.
A Merry Christmas to you. Let me stab you through the heart and steal your money.

#WritingCommunity #Writing Great afternoon working with an author I'm handing off a character to. I don't write YA and character from my UF deserves her own series.
So much fun!
When book 2 comes out I want to have a short story from the YA book in the back. We need to madly cross market at that point.
I don't write YA. She does. We spent hours together. Tonight she gets all the draft chapters mentioning her YA character.
After yesterday we BOTH deserved a great day.

What a pig! I went to the American Girl website and there were as many white dolls as there were other colors. My daughter used to love them. I'm thankful they are male and female now and come in a variety of skin tones.
#Goodnight #Thanksforallthefish
I've had an overwhelming day. I'm exhausted, but glad I stopped in here tonight to talk about swearing in German and Russian. LOL
I really needed the laugh.
Tomorrow is going to be another hell day. I may be crawling here about midnight (my time) again, gasping and looking for something to distract me from wanting to (metaphorically) end someone.
Lots of people are devoted to deity or religion.
I feel about the same way about the Constitution.
It's a living, breathing document and originalists need a swift kick in the ass.
We don't eliminate parts of our Constitution except through repeal.
If we lose all perspective and start tossing bits and pieces of it out the window because we're pissed at TFG then we're no better than he is. Or people like Melon Husk. ๐ฑ
#politics #law Today I'm talking to this guy who claims to be a recovering conservative. And he asks me "Can't we revoke the 5th Amendment if TFG says something in public so he can't deny it?"
I blink a few times. "No we cannot revoke the 5th Amendment. That sounds like something TFG would say."
Jesus on a Surfboard...
We can't drag anyone into criminal court and force them to testify against themselves in America.
Even TFG. Because OUR CONSTITUTION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN HE IS.
Twitter has become a minefield of dog turds and cat vomit that you must navigate in the dark, barefoot and off balance, ass backwards into the unknown.
New essay up on Stonekettle Station: The Mad Titan.
