@Teej_Muk I've helped a few people (in the past) work on SSI/SSDI. One thing most don't do is make it sound awful, despite the fact it really is.
People don't know that it doesn't have to be all medical specialists. It can be friends/family/ministers, etc.
Some folks with a terminal illness wait years. It's crazy.
Contact your federal Senator or Rep (whomever is most effective) to help grease the gears.
We also need to massively expand DD units.
@J_Windrow I've been waiting 18 months now. I live in Oregon, but my case was sent to Arkansas (supposedly to help out with OR cases). At least I have free healthcare, thanks to the ACA and being half-Native. I haven't had any real income on my own in all that time. At least my mom lets me stay at home with her. My claim (on SSA website) has said it's 90% done for several months now. Very frustrating!
