Hey friends!
Any of my fellow Cosonauts know anything about bee behavior? I have a question about some bee that has been doing the same thing in the same place for a week now outside my front door.
Thanks!

@J_TAPES A carpenter bee?
@Ac2alLivingScientist
Appears to be a bumblebee but less fuzzy. It's big so I'm fairly confident it's not a wasp or hornet. I'm in Massachusetts in case you are wondering what fauna we got
@J_TAPES my guess is a carpenter bee- large and territorial, but males (usually doing the hovering) are harmless. they will drill a hole in wood for females to lay eggs.
@Ac2alLivingScientist
Thanks! Now, i am definitely pro-bee but anti-chewing up my house. Are they just eating the mulch? I'd rather live and let live if i can.
@J_TAPES if it is a carpenter bee, it may get into a wood structure (not mulch). unfortunately, not something you want happening!
@Ac2alLivingScientist @J_TAPES
Carpenter bee holes are smooth and round as if someone used a drill. But other animals may gnaw into them to get the maggots to eat. They will definitely fuck up your house, and they don't care if it's cedar or redwood.
@J_TAPES if it's a carpenter bee, I have a whole bunch around here that are doing the same thing over and over again.
@J_TAPES , Mason bee is another possibility. Providing alternate housing nearby often helps with those, too. 🐝
@J_TAPES
not an expert of bees but tagging cuz sounds interesting.
