US-CERT: Vulnerability Summary for the Week of May 14, 2018
My job for the National Science Foundation revolves around "spectrum management". This involves working with other federal agencies, the private sector, and international partners to bring order to how radio frequencies are used and where, and keep spectrum available for science.
We just completed a UN agency meeting focusing on radio astronomy in Geneva. And our new head of delegation, Dr. Ashley Zauderer, did an absolutely fantastic job.
This stuff is in good hands.

@Spartan I'm already holding off buying a new computer until CPUs are released that address the vulnerabilities with corrected hardware.
Looks like I might be waiting longer.

U.S. CERT: Vulnerability Summary for the Week of April 30, 2018
@White_Rabbit Many people have an image of hackers as working magic to get into accounts.
The reality is far more mundane.
@White_Rabbit Absolutely. You can't control the Internet. But at least control the machine you use to connect.
Unfortunately, there is a similar danger if one uses public USB charging ports to charge your phone -- you're potentially connecting your mobile device to a hostile computer.
Bring your own charger.

Interestingly, some of the best and brightest astrophysicists I know are women. It seems as though we're leaving a lot of human capital on the table.
Closing the gender gap in astrophysics could take a century
