SMS message is not encrypted...at all. If you want to protect your text messages on your phone, get the Signal App. Nothing is stored on their server, and you can set messaged to disappear from your device as well.

Both ends will need to use the app, but it's very good if you need to keep communications secure. Especially important if you live in a state that is currently threatening your safety.
