I got a message earlier today from sibling that my youngest nibling came face-to-face with a cougar this morning on the way to school.

& I don't mean the kind that wears rhinestone flip-flops & drinks too much Rosé, I mean the kind that's a big silent assassin cat with pointy teeth that eats things smaller than it.

Nibling ran like hell back into the house & got an adult. Adult confirmed that yes, it was indeed a cougar, fully adult, & not actually going anywhere, which was scary - they usually move on pretty quick when discovered.

Sibling got on the horn with local wildlife authorities. & nobody was hurt or is going to end up as cougar poo, so it's OK.

@Impious_Jade They've been getting bold here in Oregon as well. So have the coyotes.

@LindaTeppler yeah scariest bit is that the coug didn't immediately leave. It hung around instead.

@Impious_Jade Holy crappp!! No doubt that was scary, especially if it didn't run off right away. Did they call a conservation office in your area? Maybe they can see about trapping it to release elsewhere, far from humans.

@M5B1tch Yeah, sibling called right away. They probably have 'em on speed dial, LOL

@Impious_Jade Sounds like that's definitely a good thing!!🙏🏼 😂

@M5B1tch Yeah sib dates a forestry service biologist too so that helps! LOL

@Impious_Jade Wow that must have been terrifying! Gather the cat ran away and left them alone? Do they live in a rural/mountainous area?

@Embers Yeah they live on several acres that backs up against a state forest. They see all kinds of wildlife & are aware there are cougs in the area, so it was a surprise but not unexpected.
