The Medicare Team:
NOTE: If you make less than $22,591 a year ($30,661 for married couples), it's worth applying for "Extra Help." Extra Help can pay for your prescription drug coverage (Part D) premiums, deductibles, coinsurance, and other costs. Visit ssa.gov/extrahelp or call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 to apply for Extra Help.
@Jeber Sweet.
@Chuckles A lot of the "simplicity" was just enforced conformity.
There were no Black people in my Bay Area neighborhood because the VA wouldn't write home loans for them there (and the deeds probably had racial covenants).
There were no gays in public life because coming out was social suicide.
Women stayed home and took care of the kids because few of them had any other option.
It looks simple in retrospect, but it wasn't. It was a strenuously maintained illusion, an invisible prison.
@Tetcny Months ago.
@mcfate I tried that at the checkout, said the person I was now wasn't responsible for former me's debts. Didn't work

This is also the last day you can register to vote in Georgia. And there's no better reason to vote than to protect your personal autonomy from state tyranny.
As a result of Georgia's Supreme Court ruling.
I am writing postcards today only to Georgia addresses.
These are get out the vote postcards.
I look up the address and find one local good thing that brought good jobs, or a better life. To that town.
And remind folks to vote.
@Museek No one can forget her heroic efforts in Puerto Rico. Nor remember them, because they never happened.
@matuzalem My first Linux box (Red Hat, somewhere around 2000) ran for at least a year without needing a reboot. This was when WinNT servers were frequently configured to reboot every 24 hours "for stability."
My current set, a couple of laptops, is less stable than that old box. Enshittification is everywhere.
My first law of operating systems: To the degree that restarting a system is a normal way of fixing that system, that system is crap.
@redenigma In my great and unmatched wisdom, I have to be the best fiddlers but it's better than scolding the same thing many people have been able to change.
@mcfate For "delusions of grandeur"? Seems unfair, everyone else in that campaign has them.
@mcfate Ew.
I have yet to understand how even one person would want to bang him. And it's something about which I don't want my curiosity piqued, thank you.
#Project2025 calls for the elimination of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) as punishment for their promulgation of #ClimateChange information. #FEMA responses will suffer. My former employer was a FEMA contractor; we provided supplemental field staff responding to disasters. Accurate forecasts enabled FEMA to preposition personnel and resources, better for everyone. MAGA prefers chaos and suffering. Vote accordingly. The life you save may be your own. #Politics
A favorite local hike, from Evergreen State College parking lot F to the beach, is now strongly discouraged due to a cougar sighting.
I'm sure it would rather eat deer than human. But we're a lot easier to catch. So if you hike, bring a friend who's slower than you.
Considering how well camouflaged and secretive these cats are, it was probably there for some time before it revealed itself.
(Photo by Michael Smith; I don't know if it's the same cougar.)
@mcfate From what I've seen, natural stupidity doesn't just beat artificial intelligence, it jumps on its back and rides it everywhere.
If you are affected by Helene in NC:
1. If you are not registered to vote or your registration is delayed due to Helene, you can register SAME day during *early* voting - October 17 - Nov 2.
2. If you were sent an absentee ballot and did not/cannot receive it - you can vote in person during early voting or on election day.
3. If you have your absentee ballot in hand, you can either mail it or drop it off at any voting location or the local BoE.

Self-driving MAGA?
Self-propelled Dumpster with delicate stainless-steel skin MAGA?
Nah, "dork MAGA" fits best.
Grew up in Cupertino before Apple, lived in Berkeley, now retired in South Puget Sound. Pronouns he/him.
