Masters in Counseling Student here. AND over 25 years of being a pagan/witch. I am taking a class on Spiritual and Ethical Counseling. I would like to know, what informs your forgiveness practice?
What steps are there for you?
Is forgiveness Divine?
Is there a payback?
Is there accountability?
Just wondering what Forgiveness looks like in Paganism/Witchcraft.
Thank you.

For forgiveness to be Divine means your actions transgress a Divine plan. For a monotheist this is simple - one set of rules, central figure to judge. For a polytheist or animist, the Divines involved are many and contradictory. Their "plans" are sometimes at odds (ex. fire and water). Trying to act in a way that doesn't cross anyOne is impossible. So to me it's better to concentrate less on getting divine forgiveness and instead showing respect where it crosses someOne's line.

Forgiveness has nothing to do with someone else. Wisdom is acquired and hopefully acted on ("I'll never do business with so-and-so again" or "I should have given them more information") but this is from an action that happened. That action cannot be undone. To pretend it didn't happen denies the chance to learn from it. I don't give them forgiveness but I can choose to give them compassion or knowledge. Or accept their actions are not mine to change. [500 chrtrs is too few!]
