HiRISE 8K: Exposure of the South Polar Layered Deposits

These South Polar layered deposits show interesting wavy patterns that may be due either to simple erosion or to some kind of flow and folding. Full cutout on Flickr: flic.kr/p/2putFT1

HiRISE 3D: Branching Deposits in Southeast Aeolis Dorsa

Branching deposits in this area have been shown to be consistent with river deltas. Here, we want to make similar measurements of the delta deposits in this region.

HiPOD: Impact Structure in Brain Terrain

We call the convoluted flow textures seen in the middle latitudes "brain terrain" because it resembles the cerebral cortex of human brains.

Here we see a relatively large (280-meter diameter) circular structure that is most likely a relaxed impact crater. Both the brain terrain and the relaxed crater are consistent with ice-rich ground.

HiRISE 4K: Layering in the Upper Walls of Valles Marineris

The layers, exposed in most rock outcrops in this image, are most likely lava flows from flood lavas that once erupted across the region. Full cutout on Flickr: flic.kr/p/2puaQv4

HiRISE 3D: Stratigraphy Exposed in Ausonia Cavus

An earlier image shoed an excellent exposure of diverse strata, but it’s the crater near the edge that draws our attention here.

HiPOD: Dark Craters

This image caught something interesting. Most of the surface is smooth regolith peppered with small craters. However, some of the craters are notably dark compared with everything else in the image.

HiClip mini 4K: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Pits

The objective of this observation is to determine the nature of a line of pits along a narrow ridge in Cydonia Mensae. (This is a non-narrated clip with ambient sound.)

HiRISE 3D: Dunes in Abalos Undae

Our science goal is to investigate the relationship between furrows on dunes and wind, both formation and erasure.

HiPOD: Gullies in Acidalia Planitia

This crater is located in Acidalia Planitia. It is situated in a sparsely cratered area of elongated mounds and hosts a variety of gully forms on its eastern, northern, and western interior slopes. This observation is centered on the crater’s western slope and captures gullies with prominent alcoves, boulders, and outcrops.

HiRISE 3D: Large Clay Deposit near Magelhaens Crater

The CaSSIS mission identified nice colors and an interesting deposit in this locale.

HiPOD: Flowing Rivers on Ancient Mars

This image of ridges in Aeolis Planum tells a story of ancient rivers and a Mars very different to that of today. River beds often get filled with gravel and the surrounding terrain is often built up of fine-grained mud from river overflows. These ridges show the location of the old river beds in Mars' distant past.

HiPOD: Pitted Cones: Possible Methane Sources?

This observation shows relatively bright mounds scattered throughout darker and diverse surfaces in Chryse Planitia. These mounds are hundreds of meters in size. The largest of the mounds shows a central pit, similar to the collapsed craters found at the summit of some volcanoes on Earth. The origins of these pitted mounds or cratered cones are uncertain.

HiRISE 8K: Layered Sediments in Tithonium Chasma

This image shows a large outcrop of layered rock in Tithonium Chasma, a part of the Valles Marineris trough system.

An Irregular Pit Chain near Sirenum Fossae

Are these chains of pits actually fissure vents?

HiPOD: Valleys into a Central Pit

The valleys in this crater flow to the crater’s central pit. The valleys are relatively small for Mars (about 100 meters). In order to determine the paleo-discharges of potential paleo-rivers into the pit, high resolution imagery and digital terrain models are needed. With this data a better understanding of the water requirements for this crater can be determined.

HiRISE 3D: A Crater Exposing Deposits at a Candidate ExoMars Landing Site in Oxia Planum

CaSSIS color data indicates that this crater has excavated and exposing an enigmatic bright white unit also captured by CRISM. Our 3D image is useful for reconstructing the stratigraphy.

HiPOD: An Interesting Mesa

Also captured in a Context Camera image, the science objective of this observation is to examine a layered mesa in a small crater. What makes this mesa interesting is that the layers are not horizontal and there are several striations on the top. The crater is under 1,500 meters in diameter.
