Reports are that the Canes are in the mix for an Erik Karlsson trade. While I give Don Waddell props, I have to wonder why. We already had one of the best defenses, made better in the past few days. Unless this is part of a 3-way deal, I can't see how this works, cap-wise.

I popped over to the Bird to see #CarolinaHurricanes fan chatter. Please, fanbases everywhere, educate yourself just a little. The Canes can't sign a Tyler Bertuzzi or Vladamir Tarasenko. There's no cap space. We have $2.8m left and that, supposedly, supposedly is going to Tony DeAngelo. Even if that deal is scrapped, we have to clear $2-3m for one of those.

My thoughts on where the #CarolinaHurricanes stand after Day 1 of free agency. A 6-part post because words.

Re-signing Andersen, Raanta, Staal, and Fast for less than last season was a great move. Newcomers Bunting and Orlov were great acquisitions but I think the Canes overpaid for Orlov. $7.75m cap hit for a player whose defensive stats are slightly above average but who has "great intangibles" (Waddell) doesn't sit well with me. 1/6
