Still wondering after all these years if Eddy Grant ever made it down to Electric Avenue.

@GaryPoole How about this? Such a complex song to decipher for idiots. The singer-songwriter bristled when asked about the disco-reggae song's meaning, according to the transcript, filed Friday as part of his $300,000 federal copyright lawsuit over the song's use in a 2020 Trump campaign tweet. "Do I have to?" Grant answered when asked: "So can you please explain what the song is about?"

@GaryPoole
Am I remembering rightly that the song was nearly banned and Eddie changed the lyrics to prevent it?

@stueytheround I hadn't heard that. I do know that like all other Grant songs, "Electric Avenue" is not available on music streaming platforms because of his dislike of how the platforms pay artists.

@GaryPoole
If I'm remembering rightly he changed the line "Deep in my heart I abhor ya" to "Deep in my heart I'm a warrior". There are versions out there with both lyrics but the latter was the version released in the UK as a single because the BBC refused to play the original words. I seem to recall Eddie being a bit pissed off about it.

@stueytheround the version we play here has the "abhor ya" line.

@GaryPoole It's in the official video, too.
My favourite song of his is this one.
Weird how underrated he is.

If it was Marley it'd have 20M!
