After the horrible loss of not one, but two, of our senior kitties (Mikey and Leila) over the past 2 months (5 weeks apart), we opted for a little joy. We decided to adopt a bonded pair of youngsters (approximately 7.5 months old) to join our group of 3-year-olds and 16/almost 17-year-olds. Meet Phoebe (formerly Honeycomb) and Joey (formerly Mango)! If you have HBOMAX and love George Carlin, I highly recommend the new 2-part documentary “George Carlin’s American Dream.” It was fantastic! His commentary is still so relevant and the doc was such a touching and funny look not only at his comedy career, but also at his family life and his love of his people. 👍🏼👏🏼

@Knitpurrl I first started researching it when our original kitty, Bailey, was temporarily diagnosed with diabetes in 2012. We fixed that without meds - we simply switched him to an all canned food (high-protein, low-carb) diet. His blood sugar was normal for the rest of his life as a result.

@Knitpurrl Yeah, ours are indoor only. Over the years, we switched from only feeding kibble to feeding in combo with more natural brands of canned food, along with freeze-dried raw. We think that has helped their overall health immensely.

@Knitpurrl Wow - that’s impressive that you’ve had them all live that long. It’s never enough time, but 19+ years is the longest one of ours has lived yet. We’ve told our remaining kitties that they need to set a goal to live at least as long as Leila did, if not longer. We will see what happens - we do our best to give them the happiest, healthiest lives possible. We’re down to two 16-year-olds, a 3-year-old and three who are about to turn 3 now.
