When the Republicans in House/Senate/State Gov say "Don't politicize this", what they're saying is "don't discuss trying to find a solution which, in any way, requires us to modify our position; which requires us to do something other than think and pray."

β€œWe’re going to look at the people who do these acts. We’re going to convict them and we’re going to punish them”

β€œSir, you can’t convict him. He was killed along with 19 children in the school behind me”

@CJLavoie Rog-then you understand that it’s not nearly as simple as holding just the aNRA accountable, and the futility of trying given that the arms lobby is (probably-I haven’t checked) bigger than the NRA.

@CJLavoie Rog-the NRA was, I should've clarified. The gun lobby/arms manufacturers are much bigger than just the NRA. I know the NRA has been the biggest proponent here in the US, but I don't think they're the only ones. They're just the loudest ones.

The drinking age in Texas is 21
Because anyone under 21 is too iresponsible and ill equiped to handle alcohol.

But an 18 year old can buy an AR-15 without a back ground check and walk right out like he just bought a loaf of bread......

sounds perfectly fine, doesn't it?

@CJLavoie …there’s not enough $$$ in doing that…the gun lobby is just about bullet-proof…every single pun intended.

"This is for the kids who die,
Black and white,
For kids will die certainly.
The old and rich will live on awhile,
As always,
Eating blood and gold,
Letting kids die."

- Langston Hughes, 1938

Just so we're clear... NRA-approved security consultants regularly terrify kids with drills where they tell fifth graders to throw their fucking textbooks at shooters but the Texas GOP's current story is that three armed cops decided that going inside Robb elementary was a job for the SWAT team

@okika_hilo I belonged to a local orchid society, with members who raised and took care of many many orchids. They were all absolutely gorgeous. After a fairly short time (3 years) I decided that the dogs & cats needed me juuuust a touch more than my lovely dendrobiums, bulbophylums & all the rest. I miss them, but the puppers/kitters are all well. :)

This may be harsh but here goes.

@jurban I dunno...this one's ( the gun lobby) been around long enough that it should've been resolved. I don't doubt/question that for a second. The challenge there is the amount of $$$ that buys off representatives & keeps them quiet on issues that don't involve their own children.

@okika_hilo Beautiful. I used to have orchids, but they took a lot of time...and the dogs didn't appreciate it...πŸ˜† 🌻

@jurban Rog...I understand the challenge-but you were the one asking in a poll...yes? That's my 1st shot, random thought on who could be considered accountable-outside of the actually person c committing the crime. If we're looking at outside influence-that's where I'm leaning...πŸ‘

@jurban I think it depends on what kind of influence the parents had on the child. If we're talking mother of Kyle Rittenhouse level of influence-then fk yes-they should be held accountable. If we're talking-had no idea, had called authorities previously to report kid had issues-then no-I don't think they should pay-they tried to tell someone.

I follow Marty Rosenbluth on FB. He's an Immigration attorney in GA, fighting to free immigrants to this country who've done nothing wrong. ❀️
