Multidrug-resistant fungi found in commercial soil, compost, flower bulbs
Named a critical public health threat by WHO, Aspergillus fumigatus is potentially deadly to immunocompromised

@EvilBunny This is what has sickened my dog. Brought into my place buy a compost provider from the UK where it's found. :(
(the dog is 'ok' but has some issues still and will be on meds forever)
@EvilBunny Keep it in perspective:
1. Aspergillus fumigatus is one of many fungi found in all soils
2. All fungi break down organic material (and are adept at decomposing wood) and thrive in compost piles.
3. Compost from cow or chicken manure is more likely to have a greater concentration of fungi that are drug resistant due to the fact that maintenance of these animals requires frequent use of medications to ensure healthy animals. (1/2)
@EvilBunny
4. Biocompost from human waste may be worse from the fact that doctors overprescribe medications. Mind you, antifungal/antimycotic medications are not the same as antibiotics.
5. Optimal conditions for growth of fungi: need moisture, mesophilic (68-113°F) to thermophilic (140-176°F) temperatures depending on species, and proper food. These are the conditions present when you compost. (2/2)
