I don't think that people sufficiently appreciate how cool it is that, 150 years after Victoria Woodhull was the first woman to run for President of the U.S., 38 years after Geraldine Ferraro was the first woman to be major party candidate for Vice President, Kamala Harris became and is now the first and only woman to achieve election to a national office by votes cast in all 50 states.

No, Harris isn't President (though she may be in the future). Yes, Hillary Clinton won the Presidential nomination and a majority of votes in the election. Yes, many other countries have been led by women Presidents and Premiers.

But Kamala Harris is the first woman to hold a nationwide elected office in the United States, and that's still worth celebrating.

I don't want to leave out that she's also both the first African-American and Asian-American in that office as well.

It was only one victim short of being considered another mass shooting, so technically I guess we aren’t supposed to count it among the others, but what the hell, I will anyway.
