I don't disagree with your premise. However, while producers keep producing, the incentive to put limits on usage is perhaps not as strong as it might be.
I'm in Australia where we could stop using fossil fuels ASAP but it won't do much globally.
Meanwhile, the busiest coal port in the world is an hour north of me and gleefully shipping a bajillion tonnes of the stuff off to Japan, Korea, India, etc.
It'd sure be good to have a mechanism to incentivise the reduction in demand.
@DyDave To all these countries complaining about the word "could"... please. If the US, China and the EU all developed independent and aggressive limits on oil and gas usage whilst promoting renewable tech through targeted investment and regulation, then nothing that happened at COP 28 will matter. No one will buy their oil, as there won't be a demand for it. The problem can be solved by demand-side economics. #ClimateChange
