The BMW i3. If I had a do-over on a previous EV I owned, I might have chosen this instead. Surely it had a nicer interior than the Leaf. It's a little less "space ship-y" IMO. The suicide doors are cool too. The gas engine range extender? I'd pass on that and go the pure EV route.
@Macinewa My experience with the Leaf was really, really good. Bought it used, drove it for four years, and never took it to the dealership. I remember buying wiper blades, washer fluid, and nothing else. I didn't have any repairs.
I'm just a sample size of one, of course. But I've heard my experience was common.
@DaveMasonDotMe it is the upside of EV ownership - almost zero maintenance at least until the battery pack fails then it’s a big expense unless it’s under warranty. I had a plug in Audi A3 etron for three years. It was good enough and never had to worry about dead batteries but living in Hawaii battery performance and ability to hold off a charge falls off quickly. I’ll wait for the next gen batteries before I move away from internal combustion.
@DaveMasonDotMe my neighbor had one of those for about a year. It had to be towed to the dealership at least 4 times while he owned it. I think the leaf is probably a better option
