These trees died approximately 600-700 years ago, scorched so intensely in the desert sun that the wood does not decompose, skeletons in an ancient landscape

This is Deadvlei in Namibia.

@CriticalCupcake was there a weather incident or change in climate 700 years ago that prevented the reestablishment of trees. Eg, the jet stream changed, shifting rains elsewhere, or some such reason?

@BlueStateBabe I Don't know, the couple of articles I glanced over offered me no insight. :(
