Good Morning Cin_G.

Bix music notes, I really dig the jazz guitarist Joe Puma.
Check out the interplay between Puma & Matthews on track #2 "Now See How You Are" at mark 6:38 here.

Wasn’t it enough that — between ‘90 to early ‘92 — he tried to keep Jerry off the horse?

Hornsby told me these are his two fave FZ albums. 🤔😝🤓

Oh man, speaking of Massholes (and D.C. swamp denizens -- the director's dad prosecuted Ollie North)...

First I rolled my eyes, then I giggled. So I might have to see it. And of coahse, Fenway Paahk makes a wikkid smaht appeahance.

No J Lo, tho.

Depending on your preference, that's either a good thing or no. 😀

Imagining how the talk went --

"Hey kid, let's make a movie. Me n' yer bro will produce it. Liman ain't doin' nuthin.'"

Eh, we haven't had a good Boston gothic crime flick in a while.

Hey, where did the "Shining" clip go?

I just watched it; had forgotten what a tour de force of acting that scene was.

As for "Tha Depahted" -- well, you might put me back on the couch vis a vis my opinion of that one, lol.

😆

"The Shining" is a great movie.
It is interesting to see how much Stanley Kubrick changed the story from the book.

Read every Stephen King book, then read the Dark Tower series. He ties The Stand and many books together.

Is the evil from The Stand (Randal Flagg) connected to other things in "Insomnia" & "The Shining?" Find out.

Started reading "The Dark Tower series last year and have only made it to the second book so far. fav series, so he pushes me with it. It's good, but for me, less so than "The Stand". I love how he ties things together in his books. Read most of what he has written. He is a genius, no doubt.

I have read a boatload of fantasy novels, The Dark Tower is my favorite.

The last 2 books have some of the best action that King has written, think of the action scenes in Thinner when the protagonist's mobster friend fights the gypsies, @peeppeepcircus

@Bix

a pretty smelly movie with Matthew McConaughey & Idris Elba though

@Bix
I made it through once cuz I like both those movie stars but once was enough

I have always been an avid reader. An unexpected side effect of grief has been the loss of ability to read as I did. The brain fog kind of took over my brain. It has gotten better, but has sure sidelined my reading.

@peeppeepcircus @Bix @InUnfunky @JoyfullyDazed @codeWhisperer @UmbaSaffire @CanisPundit @Bobk37 @evamarie
It really did. I just can't concentrate the way I did. It literally changed every aspect of my life.

@Bix @InUnfunky @peeppeepcircus @JoyfullyDazed @codeWhisperer @UmbaSaffire @CanisPundit @Bobk37 @evamarie
I had no idea how grief could take over your life and for so long. Thanking goodness it is better now for me as well. Thanks Bix 💙

I have read a metric ton of murder mysteries, TY Lawrence Block. "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" is my favorite one. Clear your mind of the movie, because the bites harder.

@Bix

my grandma got me started early with her shelves of Agatha Christie and Erel Stanley Gardner

@tgraph52
You can't go wrong with those ones.
Over all, I find Agatha Christie's characters in her books a bit cold, but I do love Miss Marple.

@Bix

We had a new/used bookstore in Mpls that only dealt in mysteries... Uncle Edgar's. I found all kinds of different authors there, in my 20s and up. Lots of foreign writers and people who never came out from under the radar. It was so great to have a resource like that...

You had to go thru Uncle Hugo's Sci Fi bookstore to get there... and I spent a lot of time and $$$ in that one too.

Salem's Lot is one the greatest horror books of all-time. The vampire is not inducted until we are more than half way through the book! Rock star writing.

@Bix @InUnfunky @CinnamonGirlE @codeWhisperer @UmbaSaffire @CanisPundit @Bobk37 @evamarie @peeppeepcircus @tgraph52

Salem's Lot was the first King book I read. We were living in NH with several acres of woods separating us from our neighbors. I was a little scared...lol.

@InUnfunky @Bix @CinnamonGirlE @JoyfullyDazed @codeWhisperer @UmbaSaffire @CanisPundit @Bobk37 @evamarie @peeppeepcircus

The first three stories from Different Seasons have been turned into movies.

Shawshank Redemption
Apt Pupil
Stand By Me (The Body, in story form)

A movie has never been done for the "Winter" story, The Breathing Method. I can sort of see why, with that one. Not sure it'd translate well to the big screen.

@Tarnagh @InUnfunky @CinnamonGirlE @JoyfullyDazed @codeWhisperer @UmbaSaffire @CanisPundit @Bobk37 @evamarie @peeppeepcircus
The weakest story in my opinion, The Breathing Method.

The movie Apt Pupil didn't live up to book, IMO too.

@peeppeepcircus @Bix @InUnfunky @Tarnagh @CinnamonGirlE @codeWhisperer @UmbaSaffire @CanisPundit @Bobk37 @evamarie

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Doctor Sleep movie. I wasn't a big fan of the book, but I'll watch the movie on a loop...lol.

@CinnamonGirlE @peeppeepcircus @Bix @InUnfunky @Tarnagh @codeWhisperer @UmbaSaffire @CanisPundit @Bobk37 @evamarie

In this case, the movie was better than the book, in my opinion. The part with the baseball kid was hard to watch, though. I read that the actors struggled with the scene, especially Rebecca Ferguson (Rose The Hat). After they finally got through it, the kid jumped up laughing. 😂

@Bix @CinnamonGirlE @peeppeepcircus @InUnfunky @Tarnagh @codeWhisperer @UmbaSaffire @CanisPundit @Bobk37 @evamarie

Yes, I agree, this was better than the book. But, I believe Kathy Bates was a big part of the reason. Same with Misery. I actually read Misery while I was in the hospital. A nurse looked at the book and said "that might not be the best book to read while you're in the hospital".😂

@InUnfunky @Bix @JoyfullyDazed @CinnamonGirlE @peeppeepcircus @codeWhisperer @UmbaSaffire @CanisPundit @Bobk37 @evamarie

I've got some firm opinions about The Mist.

The short story was really great.

The movie (ending) was infuriating as hell. 🤬

@CinnamonGirlE @InUnfunky @Bix @JoyfullyDazed @peeppeepcircus @codeWhisperer @UmbaSaffire @CanisPundit @Bobk37 @evamarie

My daughter went to see The Mist in the theater when it came out. She loved the short story so much that she spent some time writing a sequel to it - how she felt the story could continue from where it left off.

She came home in a towering rage with what had been done to the ending of the movie.

I saw it a few years later. She wasn't wrong. I'm low-key still mad about it.
