@MidnightRider @GaryPoole
When my daddy was little, he would go to town on Saturdays to the movies, etc. he would also go to the shoe store and have his feet x-rayed. When he told me this, I didn't believe him. No repurcussions from this later in life.
i remember one of those when i was a kid, used it once, but my mother found out about the danger so not again. it disappeared before next shoe visit.
@holon42
I couldn't believe it when he said there was such a machine he used. Lol. He apparently x-rayed his feet every Saturday for years.
i thought they were fairly quickly withdrawn once they danger was recognized 😬 that place must have been MAGA even then😵💫
@holon42
Honey, it was. 😂
figures 🙄
@CinnamonGirlE @holon42 What about irradiated beef? My friend the Physicist contended that any food subjected to that level of radiation will itself be altered after the exposure. Now to be clear he was not saying it was glowing and setting off Gieger counters but he 100% was saying it was radioactive. Myself I don't know but this guy was like "goodwill hunting" smart.
@MidnightRider @holon42
How could it not be affected? Again, not up on radiology enough to be able to discern the amount and effect. But it has to have an effect.
oh yeah, it must. yuck🤢🫣🤮
@holon42 @CinnamonGirlE @MidnightRider
There is actually a system in which a deep concrete well had a radioactive cobalt source at the bottom... You send down huge pallets of beef, chicken, b pork... Any and all biogens were killed... Pull it up... And no residual radiation since it's alpha and gamma... If memory serves...
Due to general distrust... The program was scrapped...
I was all for it...
Our agroindustrial complex is no good for us in general... But this would have helped...
@InvaderGzim @holon42 @MidnightRider
So therefore of course, we had to stop it. Probably no money to be made from it.
@CinnamonGirlE @holon42 @MidnightRider
I believe it's still fine in places...
Food irradiation is the process of exposing boxes or pallets of food products to radiation from a Cobalt-60 source. The ionizing radiation destroys dangerous contaminates in foods such as bacteria, viruses, fungi and insects. The process is not new; it's been around for the past 60 years.
@InvaderGzim @CinnamonGirlE @holon42 I wish he didn't pass so young, I would invite him to slide by but he's gone so his criteria for that axiom is gone.
oh, that's interesting. never heard of that at all. how was this process replaced, or was it?
@holon42
Just added to the thread...
It wasn't replaced but also non harmful sooner or was ionized particles that were cleaning things up...
hah, well something learned. not all radiation is deadly.
one wonders why there are so many instances of food poisoning recalls recently. is it more frequent, or is it just the reporting is getting better?
@holon42
I don't believe that this is used as broadly as it might due to public opinion...
I don't believe currently meats are irradiated... Thus.. dirty processing plants and growing methods lead to dirty meat and poultry in the store...
We need to dismantle the monopolies that control our food...
Europe doesn't have these issues as they're much more concerned about their food supply.. though they're being pushed to follow suit...
We need to go back to local production of food stuffs...
@CinnamonGirlE @holon42 Like I said just his accomplishments alone made me believe whatever he said, it's not like he offered these nuggets on the reg.
@MidnightRider @holon42
I definitely agree with him. 💯
for sure, radiation ☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️☠️💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀💀etc.
@CinnamonGirlE @GaryPoole My mom and friends played with them at the drug store. We think the government protects us always but I'm sure you know the tales of early radiologists who got sick from looking into image intensifiers before mirrors and monitors. They just hide danger better now, like the unmonitored for dose TSA agents standing next to essentially the same machine this morning.
