If you live near a coastline, then your home is a candidate for destruction in a natural disaster such as a tornado or hurricane. WHY?
Over 60% of homes are built to withstand only a Cat 2 Hurricane's max winds of 110mph. Before the 1990's, when construction codes were updated, coastal homes were built to withstand winds speeds of up to 95mph or a Cat 1 Hurricane.
31 Cat 5 Hurricanes have hit the US since the 1960's. 10 Cat 5 have hit the US in the last 8 yrs.

Exactly! Concrete homes make it, wooden homes are like match sticks in Cat 2 hurricanes and above.
@Bliss Don't forget the tsunami - Nature's set-it-and-forget-it catastrophe.π
We watched a program awhile ago. I think it was on 60 Minutes. A guy was building homes made out of concrete. The way the homes were designed, they were built to withstand hurricanes and tornadoes! Very impressive!
@Bliss this is why, when i see multi-million dollar coastal homes for sale, i just laugh... the sea & wind will always win
@Bliss my house in Puerto Rico where I grew up was build in the early 60βs, made of concrete with steel beams. It survived Maria almost intact.
