As promised, here is the blog version of Radio Free California Episode 2404, which includes programming notes for the radio station for the week, the playlist, and cheap (and sweary) shots taken at the news of the day. Also the video for a song I left off the playlist, because it's really quite sweet as a video but I had enough instrumentals for the week.

Enjoy!

One of my discoveries this week is a young British singer named Lola Young.

Here's hoping bright things come!

Putting together the next Radio Free California and I've run across a remake by the band The Fauns that takes me right back to my college days. It will be the last track on the playlist.

Green Day and Sleater-Kinney have new albums out this week.

The guys in Green day has this punk-pop formula down pat, and they execute it quite well. Lots of damn fine songs on the record.

But I think the Sleater-Kinney record is better, even if much less mainstream.

The Green Day album kind of melds with everything else they've ever done, which you must admit works for them.

But the Sleater-Kinney album is one I'll come back to again and again.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of Professor Peter Schickele, the man who discovered the works of P.D.Q. Bach., the 21st of J.S. Bach's 20 children and a solid composer in his own right.

And a man who could get Itzhak Perlman and John Williams together to perform this classic bit of madness, "Konzertshtick for Two Violins Mit Orchestra"

1935-2024. Meowstro.

Why da fuk, and I really mean it, why the fuck...

...can't Windows remember how I left my settings in my various folders in WINDOWS MOTHERFUCKING EXPLORER?!?!!?

It can remember 200 rows of text if I start typing similar text in a different document, but it can't do this?

New Album, Blog #4
Well this blog every day thing is off to a spectacular start, isn't it? Sorry, I got distracted.

It may come as a surprise to some of you, but I'm not just some guy with a guitar, a piano and his own recording studio. I am actually a fully trained classical musician, and jazz musician. I started my musical career in jazz, as a saxophonist with lessons from my Grandfather, who was himself a jazz musician.

Not real, but perfectly believable.

Gorrammit.

The animation style of "Hikari no Ou" is so wildly different from other anime it should be in a category all of its own. For that reason alone I would watch it, but the story is also good - if shockingly complex.

And I will watch almost any anime that Sakamoto Maaya does one of the themes for - in this case the ending theme.

There can't possibly be as many Gibson Les Paul guitars available as on-line advertising is trying to convince me that there is.

I'd love to have a Les Paul. But this is all kinds of fishy.

As promised, here is the link to the blog version of Radio Free California Episode 2403. This includes the playlist, radio station notes about our various shows running this week, and a video I think you'll enjoy.

No cheap shots this week. MLK day and the Iowa Caucuses are on the same day. That's irony enough for me.

Today, as much as any day really, many a politician will claim that what they do is what Martin Luther King Jr. would have done in their shoes. Many of them are flat out ridiculous and many are flat out lies. But I have a simple guide for you to see if they're telling the truth or if they're just trying to BS you.

Ask yourself this question: "Is the speaker white?"

Yes means they're full of shit.
No means give it a listen.

This works about 85% of the time.
