In the US before today 15,507 people have died in gun violence. That's NOT counting suicides. This is just counting crimes (source: gunciolencearchive.org).
How safe do YOU feel?
The US is of a size that we don't notice the unbelievable violence we suffer under because it is so diluted in terms of physical space.
