I sincerely hope that when we start seeing people needing to be rescued after the onslaught of Hurricane #Idalia.. and before posting heavy criticism and non-compassionate thoughts.. that we remember there is a very thick, if unrecognized, gray line between necessity and possibility. In some cases, self evacuation is a privilege.

This subcontractor suffered a breach that compromised your TIAA information. It seems sneaky to me to not mention TIAA anywhere on the envelope. It looked like junk mail to me.

Now this happened to me, a white, male, cishet Cuban. I felt demeaned. I felt the insult directed at my beloved family, at the sacrifices they made to get me where I am. All because in his eyes I wasn't "white", and wasn't supposed to succeed.
Now. Imagine a Black man or woman in that chair. And imagine the condescension turned up to 20. This is some version of what they go through every day. At the hands of not just KKK members, but nice, polite, white people.

Had a discussion about "set and setting" in the context of psychedelic substances and mindfulness practices. There is a theory that those induce a state of neuroplasticity, so that it is important that the setting where one experiences them be conducive to the type of change one would want the brain to undergo.
It's being used with PTSD or in patients who are dying to reduce anxiety. But could it not also be used by fascist organizations to make people more racist and violent?

Some memes are too spicy for this platform... or are the wrong vibe... Here's one that isn't...
Today I learned that the mud dauber wasp nest over my back door contains no actual mud dauber wasps, that even if there were one around, you'd have to try to pick it up to get it to sting you, and that the best way to control them is to remove the spider webs that attract them. They sting spiders and other bugs and leave their bodies inside the nest for their larvae when they hatch. Once the holes appear that show the larvae have grown up and left the nest, all you have to do is hose the mud off

I’ve also seen firsthand that many people on the left can and do fall for misinformation almost as easily as on the right. I watched it happen when Russian trolls flooded both Bernie and Hillary forums in 2016, deliberately turning these groups against each other.
It’s something we do need to watch out for.
