I like to template stuff like this but I couldn't get my printer to work. I did this guy freehand with an xacto knife, for you folks. 🎃

Oh, and when you see one post repeats a gazillion time, just reload the page.

^^ Why does that matter?

Because it means that for the most part, this audience already gets it. That's why your pithy political post that would get a gazillion likes Out There™ doesn't get the same traction in here.

TLDR: Hang up your spurs. You're among friends here.

I wonder oftentimes if people mean to sound as condescending or judgmental as they do.

It’s hard to convey tone accurately at the best of times.

So I’m trying to remember this when I see certain comments here (when it’s not an obvious troll), and suspend defensiveness.

Snapping back is the behavior that we don’t want to model and implicitly endorse.

Supposedly it's edible and one of the finest tasting fungi -- folks in Ukraine are out in groups gathering them -- but I'm not taking any chances. It has to be parboiled first to be nonpoisonous, so animals aren't eating them to confirm they are edible.

In the ongoing fight against invasive Asian jumping worms in my yard, we have entered the next phase: They secrete something that inhibits most fungi/molds/bacteria. Now my yard is being overrun by a new type of fungus that apparently is resistant, and whose control depends on other fungi outcompeting it. And it kills trees.

There are over 400 representatives and 100 senators in Washington, most of them white males. Before reposting memes, we should consider who is pushing the narrative that women in Washington are those who should be targeted. Cui bono?

Because the same people could be pushing outrage against GOP women as that against AOC and Pelosi.

There are lots of memes and video clips of Marjorie Taylor Green or Lauren Boebert being stupid and hypocritical. But there's also a lot of female-specific attacks and slut shaming. Like the meme that pairs this first tweet with a picture of Boebert with her mouth in an "O" shape.

One of the absolute best features of CoSo right here... "Hide boosts" from a user. If you follow someone that puts a lot of, shall we say, "extra content" in your feed, you can hide their boosts so you still get their original posts, but ONLY their original posts. It's beautiful.

New folks? I imagine many of you are feeling a kind of “extroversion press”—like you need to connect and engage and find lots of people quickly.

Many old-timers took weeks and even months to get the lay of the land and assess the feel of the place. Over time, they built their community connections and are deeply valued.

Check out hashtags, read threads, follow people who interest you.

This isn’t musical chairs. There’s a place at the table for everybody. Promise. 💙
